I’m proud to announce that Joseph Magero will officially serve as GINN’s Focal Point for Sub-Saharan Africa.
Joseph is a long-standing leader in the tobacco harm reduction (THR) movement—someone whose passion for public health and policy innovation has made a profound impact across Africa. His work spans public education, grassroots advocacy, and regional policy engagement, always focused on one central goal: saving lives through science-based harm reduction.
As a seasoned advocate for nicotine pouches and other reduced-risk products, Joseph has worked tirelessly to bring these tools to the communities that need them most. From speaking to policymakers to educating local stakeholders, he continues to push for regulatory frameworks that are grounded in evidence—not ideology.
In Joseph’s words:
“People who smoke in Africa deserve the same access to life-saving, innovative nicotine alternatives as anyone else—because harm reduction is a right, not a privilege.”
We couldn’t agree more. At a time when smokers across the continent face high barriers to access and widespread misinformation, Joseph brings clarity, credibility, and compassion.
We are thrilled to have him join our global network of experts. With Joseph helping lead our efforts in Africa, we are even better positioned to support governments, researchers, and consumers in shaping smart, ethical nicotine policy in the region.
Welcome, Joseph!
